About class transfers
When you transfer a class to a new owner, they can immediately administer the class's contents, exercises, comments, releases, course boards, and settings.
Prerequisites for class transfers:
- When you transfer a class that you own to another user account, the new owner will receive a confirmation email. The confirmation email includes instructions for accepting the transfer. If the new owner doesn't accept the transfer within one day, the invitation will expire.
- To transfer a class that you own to an organization, you must have permission to create a course in the target organization.
- The target account must not have a class with the same name, or a duplication in the same network.
- The original owner of the class is added as a user on the transferred class. Other users to the transferred class remain intact.
- Private duplications can't be transferred.
If you transfer a private class to a Classgalaxy Free user or organization account, the class will lose access to features like protected topics and Classgalaxy Pages. For more information, see "Classgalaxy's products."
What's transferred with a class?
When you transfer a class, its exercises, comments, article, likes, and watchers are also transferred. If the transferred class contains webhooks, services, secrets, or deploy keys, they will remain associated after the transfer is complete. Course information about submits, including contributions, is preserved. In addition:
-
If the transferred class is a duplication, then it remains associated with the upstream class.
-
If the transferred class has any duplications, then those duplications will remain associated with the class after the transfer is complete.
-
When a class is transferred between two user accounts, exercise assignments are left intact. When you transfer a class from a user account to an organization, exercises assigned to members in the organization remain intact, and all other exercise assignees are cleared. Only owners in the organization are allowed to create new exercise assignments. When you transfer a class from an organization to a user account, only exercises assigned to the class's owner are kept, and all other exercise assignees are removed.
-
If the transferred class contains a Classgalaxy Pages site, then links to the Course class on the Web and through Course activity are redirected. However, we don't redirect Classgalaxy Pages associated with the class.
Class transfers and organizations
To transfer courses to an organization, you must have class creation permissions in the receiving organization. If organization owners have disabled class creation by organization members, only organization owners can transfer courses out of or into the organization.
Once a class is transferred to an organization, the organization's default class permission settings and default membership privileges will apply to the transferred class.
